Hi there! I’m a journalist who has bylines in PEDESTRIAN.TV, Kotaku, Mamamia, SBS Voices, 10Daily, Shameless Media, and Whimn. I’ve got a Bachelors degree in Communications (Journalism) from UNSW, and have worked in Australian media for five years. I was also nominated for Young Writer of the Year in the 2023 Mumbrella publish awards.
I’m open to work right now so if you’re looking for a freelance commentator or columnist (or a full-time news hound), hit me up!
Over the years, I’ve covered issues of every genre: Australian politics, entertainment and celebrity culture, movies, TV shows and online trends, music, and yes, even my worst enemy: sports. Go the Tillies! I also have experience writing SEO and affiliate content.
Aside from writing, I love having a chat and talking through issues. I’ve appeared on BBC Radio, ABC Sydney Radio, FBi Radio, Triple J and Blueprint for Living to discuss race politics and current affairs in Australia, in both live and pre-recorded chats. I’ve even appeared on radio to discuss the link between disliking cats and misogyny — yep, it’s a thing! — and conspiracy theories about Kate Middleton’s alleged disappearance. Call me a jack-of-all-trades!
You also might’ve heard me talking about the politics of hair on Flex Mami’s Semi Factual History Lesson’s podcast, or dating culture on Abbie Chatfield’s It’s A Lot podcast.
I host my own podcast called Here’s The Thing, Tho with my husband and creative partner Mitch Price, where we discuss politics, feminism, media trends and anti-capitalism — and often, how all these issues intersect in a colonial world. I also review books and movies, because those are fun and we all deserve a little treat. You can find me on Instagram @soalihaofficial
